Head Light Panel

The front bumper cover is almost ready to go back on.  The head light panel components were blasted, shot with etching primer, followed by a couple coats of Sem’s Rust Shield satin black.


Rear Bumper

The rear bumper and side marker lights were installed.  New bumper reinforcement clips were sourced from Ebay.  The next project will be disassembling and restoring the original tail light assemblies.


Bumper Flex

These bumper covers are a real pain to work with.  I used a local shop to soda blast these and a few other pieces to make quick work of the stripping process.  A little work was required with the DA sander to smooth out some texture left by the blasting and to remove some left over paint in some areas.  Though this was the easy part.  The real challenge is making these pieces rigid enough so the primer and paint don’t crack when they’re flexed during handling and assembly.  The first attempt was unsuccessful so the majority of K36 primer (which included a flex additive by-the-way) was sanded off.

The next attempt will be to fasten some particle board to some of the mounting locations of the bumper in order to create a make-shift frame.  Next, in addition to PPG’s flex additive, the K36 will be thinned considerably in order to limit the build-up.


YearOne Wheel Flares

YearOne’s wheels flares were fitted to the car. The second picture shows a side-by-side comparison of the original and aftermarket piece in respective order.  The original pieces are flexible urethane and the new pieces are rigid fiberglass.  Some trimming was required to get a good close fit.  One side had to be built up with a small amount of fiber glass.  Don’t expect these parts to be a bolt-on piece as some work is required.  The end result is a much cleaner appearance and certainly worth the extra effort.


Door Components

This is the first post in a few weeks for good reason.  The past few days have been spent tediously sorting, cleaning, and painting a pile of door components.  This parts include window tracks, regulators, latches, etc.   None of which individually was worth posting about.  So the following is the last 3 weekends worth of work with the top picture being the final product with glass installed.


The original door handles and locks were used.  The “4 wheel disc” decals were removed.  The pieces were bead blasted and sanded to give the paint something to grip on to. Parts were painted body color except with a flatener added to the clear.


Driver’s side regulator was shot and a new one is not yet available so a used one was purchased through Ebay.   Regulators and tracks were cleaned and reinstalled.


Inside door handle is a reproduction piece purchased through NPD.  The quality is decent.  Belt molding was purchased through NPD and is good high quality piece.
